FAA Suspends All Flights to Haiti

U.S. Embassy warns of gang violence and danger in that country.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a Notice to Airmen on Tuesday that prohibits U.S. civil aviation operations in Haiti for 30 days. The ban was placed after gunfire forced a Spirit Airlines flight to Port-au-Prince to divert to the Dominican Republic and bullet damage was discovered on a JetBlue flight that returned from the Haitian capital to JFK International Airport in New York.

Planes are exempted that are flying over or into Haiti for the U.S. government.

Gang violence escalated as the Haitian prime minister was ousted on Monday.

The U.S. Embassy reported “gang-led efforts to block travel to and from Port-au-Prince, which may include armed violence and disruptions to roads, ports, and airports.”

“The security situation in Haiti is unpredictable and dangerous,” the statement continued. “Travel within Haiti is conducted at your own risk. The U.S. government cannot guarantee your safety traveling to airports, borders or during any onward travel.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Blinken and U.S. diplomatic officials as they monitor the instability in Haiti.
  • For Administrator Whitaker to be discerning as he heads the FAA.
